MELS

Pete grew up in New York and graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in Psychology and Biology. After getting his degree he went to work as an Americorps VISTA in California at UC Davis Department of Pediatrics. This solidified his love for working with children while allowing him to explore the alpine ecosystems of the west coast. He returned to NY and joined the NYC Teaching Collaborative, earning a Masters in Adolescent Education in Biology. He started teaching in Brooklyn and became a founding science teacher of an EL school. After teaching for a few years in NYC he decided to once again relocate to the west coast, this time Seattle. There he worked at a non profit and was an education instructional coach for several schools in Seattle. He focused on helping teachers create more equitable classrooms centered around STEM and project based learning. After four years in Seattle exploring, learning and enjoying nature he returned back to his community in NY and joined MELS as a science teacher. Pete strives to create science classrooms that are centered around hands-on learning and investigations grounded in community issues. He’s excited to get kids excited about science at MELS.
