We are dedicated to you, our MELS students, as you grow and learn throughout your middle and high school years, and as you move on into your future.
In line with the EL learning values, MELS aims to support students as you learn mastery of knowledge and skills, demonstrate multiple perspectives and original thinking, connect to real-world issues, work to become effective learners and ethical people and to contribute to a better world.
We know about the importance of providing rich after school opportunities, which includes athletics. Our high school students participate in over twenty PSAL sports. Campus teams have claimed city and borough championships, including our wrestling team that won last year’s city championship. Several of our students have gone on to play in college and we look forward to another successful year of students learning to cooperate and compete. Our middle school participates in the CHAMPS city-wide program and we also offer other after school opportunities.
Our library is not only a beautiful space, but an amazing resource for students providing opportunities in and out of the classroom. Staffed by our award-winning librarian, Jillian Ehlers, MELS boasts a library space that is among the best in the city.
We encourage parents and teachers to take an active role in our school community by attending PTA meetings, leading committees and participating in fundraising opportunities.
School Leadership Teams (SLTs) are school-based organizations composed of an equal number of parents and staff. They meet at least once a month, and determine the structure for school-based planning and shared decision-making.
