Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School is currently looking to hire an alumnus to fill the PAID position of CARA (College Access: Research & Action) Coach !

College Coaches will work under the supervision of the school’s college counselor from August 2021 to August 2022. Will work with graduating
high school seniors to help them apply to and matriculate into college.
The role of the college coach is to provide support to seniors as they make plans for life after high school and will include a wide variety of tasks, including: 
  • Attending all College Bridge training
    • Summer 2021: Week of August 16
    • September 16, 2021
    • Winter: 3 days in early January
    • Additional training will be scheduled throughout the year based on Coach schedules
  • Facilitating workshops for seniors throughout the year;
  • Assisting students with paperwork and tasks involved in applying for college including search, application, and financial aid process;
  • Tracking student progress using school data tracking system, weekly or more often as needed;
  • Helping plan and lead school wide events and trips related to the college process;
  • Attending weekly meetings with college counselor to review all graduating seniors’ status in the college process and issues to be aware of;
This position is a commitment of 10 hours per week during the school year and 15 hours per week over the summer.  
Qualification include:
  • Understanding of the obstacles students encounter in applying to and registering for college
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Commitment to the work of college access
  • Live locally in NYC
  • Completed at least one year of college (preferred)
  • Ideally interested in serving in this role for multiple years (we hire for a period of 1 year, but aim to have the coach return for 2-3 years)
